Understanding Tradition in Post-Traditionalism by the Hungarian Jews
The paper examines in a comparative perspective the still existing and still needed static perception with the interactive views of Jewish tradition. As the paper elaborates the case of newly returned Hungarian Jews baalei teshuva) and their need to return to an „authentic” traditional lifestyle, argues that the tradition consists from various aspects from the concept of what a certain group believes to be „traditional” to the everyday lifestyle that incorporates elements that are labeled as „traditional”, „modern”, „surviving”, „reviv-ing”. However, ultimately the revival of traditional elements serve as future identity framework for new Jewish identities.
