Following a year and a half of discussions among a wide-ranging group of thinkers, practitioners and activists in the British Jewish community, several of the participants contributed articles to this publication focusing on how the concept of community is changing in the particular context of British Jewry.
The report, which was sponsored by the American Joint Distribution Committee and the Clore Duffield Foundation, contains a series of thoughts or ideas designed to facilitate discussion and debate about the Jewish collective future. The views expressed raise some central and often quite challenging questions and ideas, and are designed to promote dialogue about how to sustain, renew and invigorate the Jewish community today.
Included in the publication are essays by JPR Executive Director Jonathan Boyd (Jewish Community 2.0: How the Internet may be changing the face of Jewish life), Rabbi Dr Raphael Zarum (Jewish conceptions of community); Rabbi Shoshana Boyd Gelfand (Post-denominational communities: Finding a home for serious Jews); Matt Plen (Learning communities and critical pedagogy); Dr Keith Kahn-Harris (What is British Jewish politics?); Joseph Finlay (Towards an open community); and Judith Williams (Navigating the Jewish landscape; How emerging adults are teaching us new conceptions of community).
