Az éneklő rabbitól a haszid reggae királyáig
From the Singing Rabbi to the King of Hassidic Reggae
My study introduces three significant figures from the jewish religious popular
music scene (Shlomo Carlebach, Debbie Friedman and Matisyahu). Along
the three case studies I am interested in the participants’ understanding of
music and how (religious) identities are defined and redefined through religious
popular music. Questions of worldviews, religious attitudes, identites
are brought to the fore. I would like to shed light on how the relation to community,
tradition and religious tradition is contested through jewish religious
popular music.
