Abstract
Die „Denkfabrik Schalom Aleikum“ schaut auf der Suche nach Glaubensspuren durch ein selten geöffnetes Fenster: jüdische, muslimische und christliche Lebensrealitäten in Ostdeutschland. Wie spielt sich religiös-gesellschaftliches Leben ab in einer Region Deutschlands, in der die meisten Menschen keiner Konfession angehören und die Geschichte vieler Gemeinden zweifach unterbrochen wurde – durch die Schoa und die DDR? Juden, Christen und Muslime Ostdeutschlands haben oft eine andere Geschichte und auch eine andere Gegenwart als die in der restlichen Bundesrepublik. Das markiert nicht nur Probleme, sondern auch große Chancen für Deutschland. Was bedeuten multiple Zugehörigkeiten insbesondere für junge Erwachsene in einem Umfeld, das aktuell auch von antidemokratischen Aktivitäten geprägt ist? Die Autorinnen und Autoren führen diese Aspekte zu einer Frage des sozialen Miteinanders zusammen und entwickeln eine selten ausgeführte Perspektive.

In search of traces of faith, the “Schalom Aleikum think tank” looks through a rarely opened window: Jewish, Muslim and Christian realities of life in East Germany. How does religious and social life unfold in a region of Germany where most people do not belong to any denomination and the history of many communities was interrupted twice - by the Shoah and the GDR? Jews, Christians and Muslims in East Germany often have a different history and a different present than those in the rest of the Federal Republic. This not only marks problems, but also great opportunities for Germany. What do multiple affiliations mean, especially for young adults, in an environment that is currently also characterized by anti-democratic activities? The authors bring these aspects together to form a question of social coexistence and develop a perspective that is rarely expressed.
