Abstract: This chapter analyses the position of Jews and Judaism in a new dialogic perspective. The first part defines Qur’anic terms that were frequently used to describe the Jewish population in Mecca and Medina. This part is followed by a discussion of the political and social circumstances that caused considerable tension between the Muslims and Jews in Medina. The chapter highlights the fact that the verses about Jews, like the other Qur’an verses, must be understood within the particular context, since all the verses were revealed in response to the existing circumstances at the time of their revelation. Based on those verses, together with other sources, including the Constitution of Medina. In fact, as the chapter points out, some of the verses speak directly to the Jews, reminding them of their promise to accept God’s messages. The chapter ends with an examination of their shared history, particularly in Medina. The chapter concludes with an examination of the present-day significance of the Qur’anic verses for Jewish-Muslim relations in the European context and the relevance of anti-Semitic education for Islamic religious education.

Abstract: Gängige Vorurteile gegen Jüdinnen und Juden sind bereits in der Primarstufe unter Schülerinnen und Schülern zu finden. Ein sensibler Umgang mit dem christlich-jüdischen Verhältnis im christlichen Religionsunterricht kann diesen Vorurteilen entgegenwirken und somit Antisemitismus bekämpfen. Dazu ist es notwendig, dass Lehrpläne und Schulbücher für diesen Unterricht vorurteilsfrei gestaltet sind. Dieser Beitrag zeigt mithilfe der qualitativen Inhaltsanalyse gelungene und problematische Darstellungen im Vergleich mit früheren Studien auf. Zudem stellt er ein Analyseinstrumentarium speziell für Unterrichtsmittel an Primarschulen vor, das nach dem didaktischen Prinzip der Elementarisierung entwickelt wurde.

Abstract: Anti-Semitism is a phenomenon that transcends borders of nationality and can not be perceived only in the general context of mutual prejudices, but also in terms of a specific attitude directed against Jews. In this study, this phenomenon will be presented in the Polish context. The analysis of anti-Semitism can not be reduced to the theoretical framework of modern “Halbbildung”, praxeological rationality or of intercultural education, but must recognize its latent forms. Hence, religious pedagogy should notice and study the collective memory of every society.

Abstract: Das hier vorgestellte Forschungsprojekt steht in der europaweiten Diskussion über historische Erinnerung und die Herausforderungen des Antisemitismus heute. Der besondere Schwerpunkt der Studie liegt auf dem Holocaust-Gedächtnis im Religionsunterricht. Das Forschungsprojekt fragt, wie das Thema Holocaust-Gedenken und Antisemitismus innerhalb des Religionsunterrichts in Sekundarschulen in Deutschland, Österreich und der Schweiz behandelt wird. Über den theoretischen und meist normativen Diskurs hinaus wird der Schwerpunkt auf die empirische Untersuchung der Praxis mit dem Schwerpunkt Antisemitismus gelegt. Dies wurde in allen drei Ländern mittels eines Online-Fragebogens untersucht. Dieser Ansatz bietet einen Überblick, statistische sowie qualitative Daten über verschiedene Formen der Vermittlung des Holocaust-Gedenkens und über die Behandlung des Antisemitismus im Religionsunterricht.

Abstract: This article presents a case study of the encounter of a Holocaust survivor with students. Abba Naor (born 1928 in Kovno, Lithuania) has been visiting school classes for many years to tell his story. Little is known about how Holocaust survivors interact with young people, especially in view of the imminent end of contemporary witnesses. With a view to the framing of his testimony, the aim of this study is to reflect the goals he pursues, the institutional peculiarities that become effective, and the formal and content-related characteristics that frame his narration. The contribution closes with remarks on contemporary witness talks in schools.

Abstract: Nach einer Reihe von antisemitischen Übergriffen – vor allem in Schulen - in den letzten Jahren steht das Thema Antisemitismus wieder mehr im Fokus der öffentlichen Aufmerksamkeit. Als vermeintlich Verantwortliche stehen im Mittelpunkt der Debatten vor allem Menschen muslimischen Glaubens. Rechtsextremistische Übergriffe und antisemitische Haltungen in der Mitte der Gesellschaft geraten demgegenüber häufig aus dem Blickfeld. Obgleich das Thema Antisemitismus in den letzten Jahren regelmäßig zum Gegenstand öffentlicher Debatten wurde und entsprechende mediale Aufmerksamkeit auf sich zog, sind die Defizite in der Bildung in den Feldern Prävention und Intervention noch immer beträchtlich. Das Thema Antisemitismus wird in der Regel als Teil des Unterrichts über Nationalsozialismus und Holocaust verstanden. Aktuelle Formen der ablehnenden Haltung gegenüber Juden sind kaum Gegenstand des Unterrichts. Der Vorstellung, historisch-politische Bildung sei das Allheilmittel gegen aktuellen Antisemitismus gilt es entgegenzutreten.

Abstract: Der Beitrag identifiziert aus einer pastoraltheologischen Perspektive die aktuellen Aufgaben, die sich Christinnen und Christen zur Bekämpfung des Antisemitismus – vor allem in Deutschland und Österreich – stellen. Im Unterschied zur Fülle der lehramtlichen und theologischen Materialien, die pastoral Verantwortlichen zur Verfügung stehen, ist das Thema Antisemitismus bisher kein strukturiert erforschtes Thema des Faches. Mangels repräsentativer empirischer Studien beschreibt die Autorin auf der Basis von drei verschiedenen Antisemitismus-Begriffen antijudaistische sowie antisemitische Phänomene im pastoralen Feld. Ein besonderes Augenmerk gilt dabei den klassischen Dimensionen kirchlicher Verkündigung, der Begegnung mit dem zeitgenössischen Judentum und dem Antijudaismus als genuin theologischem Phänomen. Der Beitrag versteht sich als erster programmatischer Entwurf, der eine intensive Diskussion auslösen soll.

Abstract: Der vorliegende Beitrag befasst sich mit der Antisemitismusproblematik im islamischen Religionsunterricht und veranschaulicht mittels einer Lehrplananalyse das Dilemma antisemitischer Lehrinhalte. Die Lehrplananalyse zum islamischen Religionsunterricht von allgemeinbildenden höheren Schulen (AHS) versteht sich als eine Exploration für vertiefende Studien zum Antisemitismus und dessen Prävention im islamischen Religionsunterricht. Die Analyse der Lehrpläne mithilfe der Grounded Theory liefert Ursachen von Antisemitismus und dessen möglicher Verbreitung im schulischen Kontext. Zuletzt fokussiert sich der Beitrag auf die Chance der interreligiösen Bildung und die Prävention von Antisemitismus durch den islamischen Religionsunterricht im Lebensraum Schule.

Abstract: Using a content analysis, this study critically explores the religious education (RE) curriculum for primary and secondary school in Norway with a view towards highlighting references to antisemitism and the Norwegian holocaust, especially in relation to the teaching of Judaism. The study focuses on inclusive education from the perspective of the religious education curriculum. The findings reveal that while aspects of the history of Christianity are taught employing a local lens, this does not extend to Judaism. We argue that this statutory omission is problematic given the historical contours of antisemitism which found its apotheosis in the Norwegian holocaust and the contemporaneous recrudescence of antisemitism. Given the historical conflation of religion and ethnicity in regard to Jews, it is argued that the RE curriculum should include pedagogical measures that aim at combatting antisemitism. Commensurate with a contrapuntal pedagogy that aims at counteracting antisemitism, we posit some examples for the consideration of RE teachers.

Antisemitism in Contemporary Hungary: Exploring Topics of Antisemitism in the Far-Right Media Using Natural Language Processing

Abstract: In this paper, we explore antisemitism in contemporary Hungary. After briefly introducing
the different types of antisemitism, we show the results of a quantitative survey carried out
in 2017 on a nationally representative sample. Next, we present the research we conducted
on the articles related to Jews from the far-right site Kuruc.info. Our corpus contained
2,289 articles from the period between February 28, 2016, and March 20, 2019. To identify
latent topics in the text, we employed one of the methods of Natural Language Processing
(NLP), namely topic modeling using the LDA method. We extracted fifteen topics. We found
that racial antisemitism, unmeasurable by survey research, is overtly present in the discourse of Kuruc.info. Moreover, we identified topics that were connected to other types of antisemitism.
