Abstract
Jewish burial practices are not just a matter for historical research. And for good reason as in France, Orthodox and traditionalist Jews are facing a major challenge today. Cremation, rigorously regulated by religious texts, is becoming more and more likely because of changes in the legal and administrative framework. Orthodox and traditionalist Jews are certainly trying to adapt to this constrained framework, by using consistory cemeteries. But the viability of these arrangements remains to be seen.
