Abstract

The author outlines the situation of the Jewish population of Ukraine, estimated to be between 100,000 and 200,000. The population is declining, the author explains, due to a low birthrate, and high levels of intermarriage and assimilation. Jewish community life in Ukraine is organized and maintained mostly by foreigners, the author notes. Popular antisemitism is also on the rise.
