Abstract
The author reviews the postwar history of Moldova up to 1998, the and the contemporary situation of Moldova's (estimated) 30,000 Jews. The author explains that the Jewish community of Moldova is more conscious of its heritage and history than Jews of other post-Soviet states, mostly because Moldova was integrated into the Soviet Union relatively late (1940). She outlines the state of Jewish institutions, Jewish education, and Israel-related activity in Moldova.
