Abstract
Im Jahr 2021 stellten eine Reihe von Wissenschaftler_innen die „Jerusalem Declaration on Antisemitism“ (JDA) vor, eine Antisemitismus-Definition, die den Anspruch hat, die Arbeitsdefinition der International Holocaust Rembrance Alliance (IHRA) zu ersetzen. Translated Abstract
In 2021, a group of scholars presented the “Jerusalem Declaration on Antisemitism” (JDA), a definition of antisemitism intended to replace the working definition of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA). This working paper closely examines the JDA’s political framework, core definition, and 15 guiding principles. It explores whether the JDA describes antisemitism in a way that allows state and civil society actors to identify it. A close reading reveals that the JDA is fundamentally characterized by gaps and contradictions that preclude its application without conflict. The gaps and contradictions – including an unclear handling of contexts for assessing anti-Semitic statements, the distinction between anti-Semitism and criticism of Israeli policies, or an unclear classification of the equation of Israel with Nazi Germany – are partly related to the political framing of the JDA.
