Abstract
»Was ist Antisemitismus?« bietet in knapper Form eine fundierte Darstellung der grundlegenden Begriffe, Probleme und eine Übersicht der Autor:innen, die für die wissenschaftliche und öffentliche Diskussion über das Verständnis von Antisemitismus im deutschsprachigen Raum von Bedeutung sind. Die Herausgeber:innen verfolgen dabei zwei Hauptanliegen: Erstens soll die komplexe wissenschaftliche Arbeit von verschiedenen Antisemitismus-Konzepten, wie dem israelbezogenen oder dem »postkolonialen« Antisemitismus, einem breiteren Publikum zugänglich gemacht werden. Zweitens soll das Wissen über die verschiedenen Auffassungen von Antisemitismus aus Perspektiven der Wissenschafts- und Erkenntnistheorie sowie der Antisemitismusforschung systematisiert werden. Das Buch ist das Ergebnis eines intensiven Austauschs im Rahmen des Forschungsprojekts »Antisemitismus definieren«, in dessen Rahmen acht Personen mit verschiedenen wissenschaftlichen und biografischen Hintergründen die Grundlinien unterschiedlicher Antisemitismusbegriffe herausgearbeitet und die Schwierigkeiten bei der Definition diskutiert haben. Herausgekommen ist ein interdisziplinärer Band, der auch vor dem Hintergrund aktueller kontroverser Debatten eine zentrale Handreichung bietet.

"What is Antisemitism?" offers a concise, well-founded presentation of the basic concepts, problems, and an overview of authors that are relevant to the academic and public discussion on the understanding of antisemitism in German-speaking countries. The editors pursue two main objectives: First, to make the complex academic work on various concepts of antisemitism, such as Israel-related or "postcolonial" antisemitism, accessible to a broader audience. Second, to systematize knowledge about the various understandings of antisemitism from the perspectives of scientific theory and epistemology, as well as antisemitism studies. The book is the result of intensive discussions within the framework of the research project "Defining Antisemitism," in which eight individuals with diverse academic and biographical backgrounds explored the basic principles of various concepts of antisemitism and discussed the difficulties involved in defining them. The result is an interdisciplinary volume that also offers a central guide against the background of current controversial debates.
