Abstract
Am Beispiel der Kontroverse um Achille Mbembe wird eine grundlegende Problematik postkolonialer Theorie sichtbar, Antisemitismus auszublenden und den Holocaust in eine allgemeine Geschichte von Gewalt einzuordnen. In Mbembes Deutungen von Kolonialismus, Nationalsozialismus und dem Nahostkonflikt treten dabei wiederkehrend problematische, teils antisemitische Motive hervor – etwa in Form von Gleichsetzungen, Relativierungen und Opfer-Täter-Umkehrungen. Der Text zeigt, dass diese Perspektive bei Mbembe im Zusammenhang mit einem Deutungsmuster steht, das das Judentum als partikular dem universal gedachten Gegenbild des Christentums gegenüberstellt und so zur Relativierung des Holocaust sowie zur Reproduktion antisemitischer Denkfiguren beiträgt.
Translated Abstract
The controversy surrounding Achille Mbembe reveals a fundamental problem within postcolonial theory: its tendency to suppress antisemitism and place the Holocaust within a broader history of violence. Mbembe's interpretations of colonialism, National Socialism, and the Middle East conflict are replete with problematic, sometimes antisemitic, motifs—for example, in the form of equations, relativizations, and victim-perpetrator reversals. This text demonstrates that Mbembe's perspective is linked to an interpretive framework that contrasts Judaism as particular with the universally conceived counterpart of Christianity, thereby contributing to the relativization of the Holocaust and the reproduction of antisemitic thought patterns.
