Abstract

This paper examines how graduates of UK Jewish day schools have experienced and responded to antisemitism during a period of heightened hostility toward Jews and Israel. Drawing on longitudinal data from the Jewish Lives study (2011–2021), we trace participants’ evolving perceptions of antisemitism from adolescence through university life. We find that their responses—ranging from withdrawal into Jewish networks to public engagement—draw on a shared foundation of Jewish identity, community connection, and civic awareness shaped by their school experience. These findings complicate prevailing narratives of Jewish schools as either insular or empowering, suggesting a more nuanced and variable impact.
