Abstract
The current status of Jewish population data collection is to a large extent exploratory and tentative. Systematic thought and planning should be devoted to several key issues that recur in Jewish population studies: sponsorship; financing; coordination and standardization; definition of the targeting population; sampling frames and sampling techniques; the questionnaire structure and contents; methods of data collection; public opinion incentives; confidentiality and the dissemination and analysis of data. The author calls academics, Jewish communal lay leaders, and professionals to share challenges and responsibilities in the field of Jewish population research.
