Abstract: Emigration from the Russian Federation to Israel is examined by region of origin and in relation to the socioeconomic situation. Detailed monthly data on migration in the period before and after the financial crash of 1998 are discussed. Finally, the severe vital crisis of Russia’s Jewry and its consequences for the prospects of emigration to Israel are studied.

Abstract: This article shows that the great exodus exacerbated the already existing severe aging and the sex imbalance, thereby aggravating the negative vital balance and intensifying mixed marriage among Jewish population of Russia. At the same time, the main cause of the impressive decrease in the number of Jewish births was not mass emigration, but rather a decline in fertility. The study also found the stability of Jewish longevity during the great exodus, despite the dramatic decline in the longevity of the total Russian population.
