Abstract
The article present the opinion of several academics regarding what should be done or is done in order to ensure the availability of statistical data on Jewish populations. Main issues raised are: what is the right type of research the Jewish community should be financing; how the cooperation between researchers and planners should look like; what are the pros and cons of diverse methodologies of data gathering. References to the U.S., French, British and Israeli Jewish communities are presented together with a preliminary inventory of Jewish population data for countries with more than 1000 Jews.
