Abstract
The article is devoted to traditions and practices of naming newly-born children in the communities of Bukhara Jews. Two main principles of name-giving are analyzed: in honor of a deceased relative and «according to Torah». Paper is based on interviews with several generations of Jews in Bukhara and Samarqand
