Issues Confronting Jewish Communal Professionals in France
Author(s):
Katz, Andree
Date:
2005
Topics:
Jewish Community, Jewish Peoplehood, Main Topic: Other
Abstract:
This article examines the current state of Jewish communal life in France. The author finds three main trends: a growing desire for Jewish life; an increasing number of families who send their children to Jewish schools instead of public ones; and the ongoing development of Jewish social agencies and programs. These trends are each complex and subject to many factors including relations with the broader French community and issues of philanthropy and fundraising.
A Framework for Considering European Jewry's Challenges
Author(s):
Lerman, Antony
Date:
2003
Topics:
Nationalism, National Identity, Diversity, Pluralism, Jewish Identity, European Union, Main Topic: Other
Abstract:
In recent years, there has been a renewed emphasis on an Europe of nations, rather than on communities, which has been echoed in European Jewish communities. This backlash against diversity and pluralism is partly due to inept Jewish communal leadership and a lack of an effective pan-Europe Jewish organization. In Journal of Jewish Communal Service, v.79 no.2-3, Winter-Spring 2002-2003.
