Abstract: Статья посвящена баалот-тшува («вернувшимся» в иудаизм женщинам) в московской общине хасидского движения Хабад Любавич. Их взгляды на свою жизнь, свою роль в семье и общине и отношение руководства любавического движения к женскому вопросу рассматриваются сквозь призму одной конкретной темы – практики регулярного образования для взрослых. Наряду с традиционными уроками Торы и религиозных практик, за которые ответственны женщины (диетарные законы, чистота семейной жизни), Хабад поощряет лекции по здоровому питанию и семейной психологии или занятия фитнесом, с тем чтобы позволить членам общины чувствовать себя современными людьми, сохраняя при этом традиционные ценности и патриархальную иерархию.

Abstract: Feminist research into the position and participation of women in contemporary fundamentalist and traditionalist identity movements shows how essentialist ideologies of sexual difference are often deployed in critique of western secular liberal feminism. In this article the author draws a comparison between discourses of belonging according to studies of ba'alot teshuvahin the USA (female “returnees” to an Orthodox Jewish lifestyle), and her own interviews with “frumfrom birth” women (raised as haredi) in the strictly Orthodox Jewish community of Antwerp, Belgium. Whereas for the former, a rhetoric of choice, essentialism, and religious ideologies of female superiority appeared important, for the frum-born women, gender is more a question of orthopraxis and religious role equivalence. Nevertheless, the author argues that for the strictly Orthodox Jewish diasporic community in question, an increase in gender conservatism, with particular notions of female sexuality and modesty, goes hand in hand with isolationism vis-à-vis the surrounding secular society.

Abstract: The return to Judaism or the teshuvah experience emerged in the mid 1960s when young American Jews became involved in a spiritual search that eventually led them to discover and embrace Orthodox Judaism. It signalled the start of what would become a widespread phenomenon. Within a relatively short period, thousands of Jews in the United States, Israel, Britain, France, the Soviet Union, South Africa, the Netherlands and other countries committed themselves to Orthodox Judaism and became observant. A Jew who returns to Orthodox Judaism is known as a ba’al teshuvah; for a women the term is ba’alat teshuvah (plural forms: ba’alei and ba’a lot teshuvah respectively).

This study of ba’alat teshuvah in the Netherlands is a qualitative and exploratory investigation on how Dutch returnee woman and their mothers experienced, perceived and interpreted the return to Orthodox Judaism. In short: How do these returnees and their mothers feel about the religious intensification? In this context the research also pays attention to the ways in which the Dutch returnees became involved with Orthodox Judaism, how they found their religious niche and whether their becoming Orthodox impacted on intergenerational and multigenerational relationships.

Abstract: Le judaïsme, plus que toute autre religion, a été affecté par un ample mouvement de sécularisation lié à son émancipation politique. Toutefois, depuis quelques années en France, on peut observer un mouvement de retour au judaïsme. Bien qu'il ne représente qu'une minorité des juifs revenus à la religion, le hassidisme Loubavitch a anticipé un mouvement plus large et hétérogène de re-conversion interne, après que les juifs eurent dans leur ensemble été acquis à la laïcité. C'est ce « retour » que nous considérons comme une véritable conversion puisqu'il opère, chez les nouveaux adeptes, des changements profonds concernant tout autant l'organisation de la vie au quotidien que le sentiment identitaire.

Abstract: Cet article s’intéresse aux constructions territoriales liées au renouveau religieux dans la diaspora juive et aux recompositions identitaires qui en résultent, en prenant l’exemple du développement de mouvements orthodoxes dans le Nord-Est parisien. Abstract: Cette thèse étudie comment le renouveau religieux participe aux changements urbains, faisant émerger de nouveaux lieux du religieux, de nouveaux usages de l'espace, parfois de nouveaux quartiers. A Paris, depuis les années 1990, le 19e arrondissement de Paris concentre le plus grand nombre de lieux juifs. Il n'est un lieu d'immigration juive que de façon marginale, et permet d'interroger le rôle du religieux dans la construction de nouvelles centralités et dans l'expérience urbaine. Cette recherche s'est appuyée sur des méthodes qualitatives, associant entretiens, observations des usages de l'espace liés à la religion et analyse des formes multiples de la visibilité du judaïsme. La description des processus de regroupement associant les aspects religieux, résidentiels et commerciaux a permis de montrer que loin d'être la traduction spatiale d'une unité communautaire, ces quartiers recomposés procèdent au contraire de la diversité du groupe, et constituent eux-mêmes des territoires discontinus et fluides.

Abstract: После крушения государственного социализма в Украине начинают происходить драматические трансформации религиозного ландшафта. В данной статье анализируется влияние религиозного возрождения на еврейское население Одессы. Рассматриваются различные стратегии поворота к вере, мотивация новообращенных, их попытки вжиться в иудаизм, те обсуждения традиции, в которые они в ходе этих процессов вовлекаются, а также влияние новой религиозности на внутри- и межсемейные взаимоотношения. Утверждается, что по большей части новособлюдающие иудеи восприняли иудаизм как новый способ быть евреем, а не как возвращение к своим семейным традициям. В целом она характеризует постсоветскую религиозность в Одессе как формирование режима «религиозной приверженности» в смысле особого состояния ума и пространства для выстраивания духовной жизни. Эта «религиозная приверженность» приводит к новым или несколько иным направлениям иудейской идентичности, уже не связанным с «полнотой» соблюдения набора правил. «Религиозная приверженность» может включать в себя полную, частичную, кратковременную или долговременную практику иудаизма, приобщение к нему в дополнение или в замещение прежних убеждений.

Abstract: Im Jahr 2001 eröffnete in Frankfurt/Main das erste religiöse
Lehrhaus für jüdische Frauen in Deutschland. In dem von der
Ronald S. Lauder Foundation finanzierten Internat lernen bis heute
mehrheitlich junge Frauen aus der ehemaligen Sowjetunion. Diese
zum Glauben „zurückgekehrten“ Studentinnen erleben im Verlauf
ihres Studiums einen enormen religiösen Transformationsprozess,
der nicht mit dem Auszug endet. Manche dieser Frauen haben
mittlerweile Familien gegründet und sind nach Israel gezogen. Der
Artikel erörtert die Entwicklungen zweier ehemaliger
Internatsstudentinnen in beiden Ländern und geht anhand
ethnografischer Untersuchungsmethoden der Frage nach,
inwiefern das von ihnen angeeignete religiöse Normen- und
Wertesystem ihr jüdisches Selbstverständnis und Alltagsleben bis
heute prägt.

Abstract: The majority of Lubavitchers now in France come from the families of North African Jews. In becoming ba'alei teshuvah, they managed to remain Jews while breaking away from the culture of their parents. In so doing, they also adopted a form of ashkenazi culture in its most socially visible form. The women 'returning' were typically at the end of their adolescence and contemplating the question of breaking away from their parents to forge families of their own or else they were still students deciding whether or not to stop their studies to get married. They often wanted to escape the strictness of their fathers and the old-fashioned ideas those fathers held about women's lives. Not yet adults, they were having the same conflict with their parents as other children of North African immigrants, trying to honor family tradition as well as wishing to integrate into French society.
