Abstract:
As a baby in the Budapest Ghetto, I have lived with knowledge of the Holocaust all my life. However, I only studied it in my 50s when I did an MA in Holocaust Studies and that led to research, writing books and giving lectures in my 60s and 70s. Accordingly, the current worldwide increase in antisemitism at a time when Holocaust education (HE) is also expanding across the globe has been a cause of concern to me for many years. I wanted to explore the problem by looking at various types of HE across the world in light of my own experience. I also looked at aspects of antisemitism as well as antizionism and the situation regarding the state of Israel The current situation of the pandemic has raised mediaeval tropes about Jews that have been shocking to those experiencing them. The concept of “Never Again” appears to have passed. However, the work done by international bodies like the IHRA in unifying ap-proaches is important and the bodies that deal in HE in the United Kingdom have provid-ed helpful comments on the problem.
