Abstract
This study maps, for the first time, contemporary dynamics of Basel's Jewish community. It reveals the problematics in community life stemming from the gap in lifestyles and values between an orthodox minority supported by the community's official orthodox rabbi and the broader Jewish public who do not lead an orthodox way of life. The study portrays this reality and indicates options for the community's future.

המחקר ממפה לראשונה היבטים חשובים של המציאות העכשווית בקהילת באזל. הקהילה היהודית בבאזל נתונה במתחים פנימיים משמעותיים, עקב הבדלים עמוקים שבין עמדותיו השמרניות של הרב הרשמי של הקהילה, הנתמך על ידי המיעוט האורתודוקסי של חברי הקהילה, לבין רוב בני הקהילה, שאינם שומרים על אורח חיים אורתודוקסי. המחקר ממפה מציאות זו ומצביע על כיווני התפתחות קיימים ורצויים.
