Abstract

Proceedings of a symposium exploring contemporary Jewish life in Poland, marking the close of Jewish programming for POLSKA! YEAR. The symposium was held at the Jewish Museum London in May 2010, and was organized by the Adam Mickiewicz Institute, Warsaw; the Galicia Jewish Museum, Kraków; the Institute for Polish–Jewish Studies, Oxford; and the Jewish Museum London.
The symposium offered a opportunity to hear from leading speakers from Poland and the UK engaged at the highest level with contemporary Jewish life in Poland. Community leaders, cultural practitioners and academics considered the significance of Poland for Jewish people today, as well as issues of religious life, cultural revival, the preservation of Jewish heritage and some challenging questions about Poland’s Jewish past. These proceedings from the symposium offer a unique insight into one of the most provocative, complex subjects in today’s Jewish world.

With an introduction by Jonathan Webber, UNESCO Chair of Jewish and Interfaith Studies, University of Birmingham
Edited by Kate Craddy, Mike Levy and Jakub Nowakowski
POLSKA! YEAR (2009-2010) was coordinated by the Adam Mickiewicz Institute in Warsaw, presenting the most interesting achievements of Polish culture to the British public in the fields of visual arts, theatre, music, film and literature.
