Abstract
Un grand nombre de Juifs, immigrés en France au début du XXe siècle, sont considérés comme les garants d’une culture et d’une langue ayant pris racine en Espagne médiévale. Mais que sont devenus ces hommes et ces femmes après le tourment de la Shoah et surtout, dans le cadre d’une immigration préconisant l’assimilation à la culture française ? En montrant le rôle fédérateur de la musique dans cette communauté, cet ouvrage présente une ethnographie multisite de la vie judéo-espagnole française.
Translated Abstract
A large number of Jews, immigrants to France at the beginning of the 20th century, are considered as the guarantors of a culture and a language that took root in medieval Spain. But what happened to these men and women after the torment of the Holocaust and above all, in the context of an immigration advocating assimilation to French culture? By showing the unifying role of music in this community, this book presents a multisite ethnography of Judeo-Spanish French life.
